Baahubali: The Beginning (English: The One With Strong Arms) is a 2015 Indian epic historical film written and directed by S. S. Rajamouli[4] and produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni. It is the first of two cinematic parts. The film was made in Telugu and Tamil and dubbed into Hindi, Malayalam and French languages. Baahubali features an ensemble cast of Prabhas, Rana, Tamannaah and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles, and Ramya Krishnan,[5] Sathyaraj, Nassar, Adivi Sesh, Tanikella Bharani and Sudeep in crucial roles.[6][7][8] Upon release, Baahubali has received highly positive reviews for its visual effects, production design, narration and background score,[9] and recorded the highest grossing opening for an Indian film ever.[10][11][12]
The Telugu version is presented by K. Raghavendra Rao, while K.E. Gnanavel Raja and UV Creations present the Tamil theatrical version, Karan Johar is presenting the Hindi theatrical version and Global United Media is presenting the Malayalam theatrical version. The soundtrack and background score for the film is composed by M. M. Keeravani, Sabu Cyril designed art for the film, while V. Srinivas Mohan is the Visual effects supervisor.[13][14]
The film is the most expensive production in the history of Indian cinema.[15][16][17] Baahubali also one of the films featured in BBC’s documentary on 100 Years of Indian cinema directed by Sanjeev Bhaskar.[18][19][20] The film was shot using Arri Alexa XT camera marking Rajamouli’s first film using digital camera and the principal photography began at Rock Gardens in Kurnool on 6 July 2013.[21][22] A poster was unveiled in Kochi, Kerala, which the makers claim, is the largest film poster in the world.[1] The film was released worldwide on 10 July 2015.[23][24][25][26] The second part, Baahubali: The Conclusion will be released in 2016.[27]

Critical reception
Firstpost commented on the film, “SS Rajamouli’s fantasy film with great battle scenes and hunky heroes is just epic”.[50] Hindustan Times stated, “This SS Rajamouli film is all sound and spectacle”.[51] Indian Express stated that “Baahubali is simply spectacular”.[52] Rajeev Masand of IBN Live gave Baahubali 4 out of 5 stars, praising its visual spectacle.[53]
The Times of India gave 3.5 stars to the film stating “this highly anticipated part one of the two-part period epic, manages to enthrall you with its sheer scale and grandeur”.[54] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film 3.5 stars.[55] The Hindu described the film as “A triumph of imagination”.[56] Deccan Chronicle awarded the film 4 stars.[57][58]
